Another sight in Mauritius is - not only for geologists - La Vallée des Couleurs. This park is located in the south of the island and shows the unique play of colours of the earth. 23 different shades of red and blue are visible on a few square metres. This phenomenon is due to a volcanic eruption millions of years ago. And even today it impresses many visitors every day. Much more famous than 23 colored earth is 7 colored earth, because it was discovered some years earlier. Nevertheless, a visit to vallée des couleurs is preferable, as more colours can be admired on the one hand and on the other hand numerous other activities are available.
Ziplining
23 colored earth is known for the third longest zipline in the Indian Ocean space. With a length of 1.5 kilometers adventure fans can get their money's worth here. The waterfall zipline attracts with its breathtaking view of a waterfall, over which one hovers hanging on a rope. Also shorter ziplines can be booked, for example 400 and 500 meters.
Quad Tours
If you don't want to explore the park on foot, you can book a quad tour. This is especially recommended for elderly people or people who are not able to walk because the park has some steep inclines. However, it is worth to climb the view points, as there one can enjoy a wonderful view to the 23 coloured earth and the whole nature of the valley. Of course, stops at the two waterfalls and the animal enclosures are also included in the quad tour.
Animal enclosure
Giant turtles can be petted in the vallée des couleurs. There are also many peacocks and red deer to admire.
Nepalese Bridge
The 350 meter long Nepalese Bridge is only for the daring. Tensioned to a thin wire rope, one walks on a wobbly, foot-wide plank high above the tropical rainforest. A special adventure is this experience when it rains. But as it does not get cold even in wet weather, one can also walk the Nepalese Bridge when it rains.
Conclusion
Who has the possibility should prefer the 23 colored earth over the 7 colored earth. Especially recommended are the activities like ziplining and the Nepalese Bridge. Especially in the sun the different colours are clearly visible, so it is advisable to visit the park on a sunny day.
