Les Jeux des Îles is a sporting event organized every four years since 1979. This competition brings together all the islands of the Indian Ocean. During two weeks, seven islands gather and compete in sports disciplines in order to win the title of winner of the competition. Among them Mauritius, Seychelles La Réunion, Comoros, Mayotte, Madagascar and the Maldives. Sport, fun, celebrations, a common love for sport but above all the sharing and translation of a beautiful understanding between the different islands of the Indian Ocean, here is how to describe the Indian Ocean Islands Games.

Today, the competition has more than 2500 athletes in some 10 sports disciplines such as football, badminton, boxing, swimming, rugby, tennis and many others. If sport remains the main focus in this event, the first aim was to create a good mutual understanding and a friendly atmosphere between the participating islands. Mauritius is not only famous for its beautiful beaches and paradise spots. It is also full of talented athletes in many disciplines, such as swimmer Vincent Bradley, winner of the 2019 swimming event, or weightlifter Agathe Joycemee.

In 2019, Mauritius was designated to host the 10th edition of the island's games. As a true national event, the games animated Mauritius during two intensive weeks of organization, play and sport, always in fair play and good mood. Thanks to its many stadiums and sports areas such as those in Phoenix, Vacoas or Curepipe, Mauritius has made this edition memorable... and even left with the title of winner of the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games.

After the effort, the celebration. The celebrations of Mauritius' victory, organised this year in the Champ-de-Mars, are an illustration of the festive and positive spirit of the Mauritians. This day is special for the country because it is a public holiday especially to celebrate victory and the end of the games. Artists were invited to sing and make the audience dance in the public square.
