“Le Morne Brabant” is a 556-meter-high mountain situated in the southwest of Mauritius. There is a beach outlining the foot of the mountain, in typical Mauritian style, with white sand and turquoise water. Furthermore, you can find a number of hotels, restaurants and bars there.
The Hike
It takes around 2 hours to climb the mountain, if you include short breaks and photo stops in the hike, as one won’t be able to get around of, considering the sensational view from above.
The first part of the hike consists of an easy trail that even children and elderly people can undertake. Here you will already stumble across two beautiful viewpoints. For this part of the trail you will need an approximate hour.
But don’t be fooled, the difficult part is yet to come! It is not recommended for unexperienced hikers to exceed this way, however with enough energy and endurance most will be able to master it anyway. From there forth, you will need climbing skills to reach the top, as it is very steep and there is no safeguarding and no fencing. For this path, you will also need around one hour (if you are an experienced climber probably less).
On the top of “Le Morne” you will have a breath-taking view over the south of Mauritius. Reefs, small islands and even the famous underwater waterfall can be spotted from above. Paragliders will set sail there as well when the weather is good; a view to remember.
Overall, it is a wonderful trip for visitors, who plan on getting their pulses up or ones who simply come there to enjoy the marvellous view.
