Mauritius is mainly popular for its sandy beaches where you can engage in water activities or just lay in the sun. However, this isn’t the only source of water the island is popular for. Mauritius is also filled with beautiful waterfalls, each possessing its unique characteristics.
Rochester falls is situated the south, in Savanne district. On your way there, you’ll park in a field of tall green plants, then walk for 3 minutes to reach the top of the waterfall. Compared to others, Rochester falls is one of the wildest. It is 10 meters high and known by its rectangular rocks which have been formed by the force of the water. You can either walk through a slippery muddy path to reach the bottom or, for the more adventurous individuals, you can cliff jump down. The water is deep enough for jumping however, it is recommended to ask the locals to make sure the tide isn’t low. You can even find locals climbing and jumping from a tall tree into the water. Once at the bottom, you can either enjoy a swim in the pure water, or just relax and admire the view by the rocks. It is also an ideal spot for a picnic or refreshments.
