Île aux Cerfs is a small, 87 hectares large island, situated near the east coast of Mauritius. It belongs to the Flacq District. You can get there by boat from Trou d’Eau Douce Beach, offers including Catamaran and Speedboat rides. It takes around 20 Minutes by speedboat and the overall price, i.e. the price back and forth, lies at about 500 MUR, depending on how far you can negotiate the price down. Catamaran trips often take longer, since you will not always be taken to Île aux Cerfs on the direct route, or if you do, will be taken to other places later during the day. Furthermore, you can purchase special packages, such as an included lunch or dinner and water activities, at an additional cost.

The bushy inland of the island is surrounded by dreamlike white beaches and turquoise water, as usually can only be found in brochures. The pleasant and calm atmosphere allows for a restorative beach day. However, be cautious as there are many sea urchins, therefore buying bathing shoes or going into the water wearing flip flops will be the safest way to avoid injuries.

For the likes of visitors, who aim for a more adventurous stay, hurtling, adrenalin-pumping activities are also offered on site, e.g. parasailing, banana boat rides, snorkeling, diving courses and many more.

Two restaurants, a bar and a handful of small souvenir and accessory shops, can be found on the island, all belonging to the domiciled hotel. There you can enjoy traditional Mauritanian snacks and meals, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and purchase souvenirs for your family and friends. However, keep in mind: Buying food and drinks on Mauritius before heading to Île aux Cerfs will save you quite some expenses, therefore it is recommended for visitors to bring packed meals.

Besides the beaches, another highlight on Ile aux Cerfs is the golf club, that belongs to the only hotel on the island. Here you can stay overnight and enjoy a serene sundown, when the visitor boats have already taken off.

With a bit of luck, you may encounter rare fish breeds, starfish and crabs when taking a dip in the water. Outside the water, on the trees bordering the beaches, you can witness colorful birds, that can solely be found on Île aux Cerfs itself or Mauritius.

All in all, the island is worth a visit for both beachgoers and for rather active individuals. However, either way it is a feast for the eyes, reminding one of what the term paradise truly means.
